Got a 50mm f1.8 lens the other day, and so far it seems much sharper than the kitlens and much better in lowlight. For £60 it seems like a good buy to me These are the best pics so far i think.(dogs the only thing ive got to take pictures of just nowlaugh)

Im not really one for pet photos (charlie being the exception because we are soul mates) but I actually really like these! Particularly the first and last. Great stuff and a beautiful doggy.

Pet photo's = new lens first test.

Its the law.

This a canon 50mm? nice & sharp from f2.2 up, mine at least. Sadly you wont find much sharper for any money, bokeh colour & contrast can be improved tho. As can the woefull AF.

I think a problem with the 50mm 1.8 is that it's too sharp

These photo's are great, and the sharpness (post-processed?) and colour is right on the button for me - certainly in 1 & 3.

A great start, and look forward to seeing more

my nikon 50mm 1.8 is excellent. the wide aperture means it can be used in ways that the kit lens really cant.

eg. karting just doesnt work with the kit lens as when zoomed in it is about f4.5 so it needs massively high ISO or ridiculously hard pans to get anything. with the 50mm it works fine at 1.8 or 2.0 and allows for pans of about 1/15s fairly easily.

this is the typical result (sorry about the size)
