Premiere Elements 3 - problems with stills

I have just started using Premiere Elemnts. I am trying to do a project that is a mix of video and photos.

The photos that I am using look fine and sharp in Photoshop but when I put them in Premiere they are pixellated during playback. I'm not sure if I am importing them incorrectly, have the settings wrong or they are always going to be at a lower resolution during playback.

I'm pretty confused and can't find anything in the manual or in help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Never used Elements, but in Premier Pro you normally have to "reinterperate" pictures to use them effectively. Also, it would probably be good to make them 720x480 (or whatever the PAL equivelant is - escapes me at the moment) to make them usable.
