Little late I know hehe

I now have some new webspace (thanks Joust), and starting to upload my old stuff, as well as some new material.

A fantastic day, incredibly hot, but some incredible aircraft. Some have been subject to much photoshoppery, so see what you like.

Note to self - comment tomorrow

(FWIW I think they're over saturated, but I'll get specific tomorrow)

I agree with Graham, especially the last two. I like the dark sky effect on the third one, but it looks almost posterised - what does it look like with the effect turned down a bit?

I like the through the smoke effect on the first one. Something about the composition doesn't sit right though - I think it needs more space at the bottom, and a little less smoke at the top. Perhaps taking it a second or two earlier would have added some depth to the formation and made it look a little less squashed, if you know what I mean.

There are some good shots in that collection. I particularly like these two:

Thanks for the feedback chaps. The ones I put up as examples were the heavily saturated ones, plus there are a few others on the link that are also heavily done. I think the effect is ok, but agree may not be to everyone's liking...the dark sky with the red arrows descending and the Sukhoi with the display smoke trails look cool.

Would you say that all the pics are over saturated? Perhaps I need to adjust the monitor when editing.
What about this one in terms of saturation:

Nah just the ones posted - haven't had a chance to check them all out yet. Good job getting a sharp shot of the Osprey - I failed utterly Those rotors were sooo slow.

Nice pics LB, we must have been standing next to each other ;-)
My crossing red arrows shot didnt quite work as you can see as i was on a 300L IS prime and x1.4 and couldnt run backwards fast enough to get it all in frame

Try a 400 L (edit - oops, missed the 1.4. You win )

Although that was at Cosford. At RIAT I decided to use the 24-105 for the majority of the Arrows' display.

Cheers guys. The Osprey was a very odd looking play, and doing not the most interesting of displays....but lots of detail on it to photograph. Generally pleased with the relatively few photos I took. I spent most of the day in a deck chair getting severly burnt.

As for being next to you, some of the photos are remarkably similar...I went on the Sunday and was in the deckchair enclosure to the right of the big grandstand (if the runway is in front of you)

they certainly are ;-)
I stood back for a while and was watching the photographers by the fence, when a plane doing a loop being tracked up and down and around by s snapper, he lost his balance after a few spins and landed on his ar$e.
It made me chuckle, i know how odd feeling it is though as you will know yourself, very disorientating...........

I tend to keep both eyes open as tracking a fast jet through a 400 can be a nightmare. It's a bit weird at first but once you get the hang of it, it works well. Focus is never a problem either as it'll be infinity.

Prevents the dizziness too

Wow, these pictures in my opinion are absolutely stunning, any attempt that i have of taking pictures of the red arrows looks like a floating red smartie about 50 miles away :P Absolutelty fantastic, well done

Thanks guys....I'm still very pleased with them, after not having looked at them for a long time. As for capturing the red arrows crossing, I use the same technique....follow the one coming from the right in the viewfinder....keep left eye open, panning and tracking the right hand aircraft, and shooting rapid fire when you see the left one approaching. Do it a few times, and it'll work
