So that'll be a macro-biotic mushroom then?

Generic question, but why do you get lenses that are fixed at a 'zoom' distance being so good at Macro?

I'm looking at purchasing an additional lens now that's fixed at 85mm and the reviews rate about its good macro performance.

Beware the sales blurb.

If it is a macro lens (1:1 or better) it will be designated "macro" on the lens...it will do what is says on the tin. If the sales pitch says it's good at macro then you'll be getting a lens with close-up facility, not macro. HTH.

I've been toying with the idea of getting a Canon MP-E65 macro lens. This provides a macro range of 1:1 up to 5:1 without extension tubes etc. VERY expensive though, and it seems that some users have difficulty getting used to it? If you're interested in "ultra macro" though, this provides the easiest solution. Anybody had any experience?
