advice needed

hi all

need a liitle advise. currently have a powershot S40 and am looking to change. always fancied a DSLR, tempted by something like the nikon D80, I do like fiddling with setting, but realy don't have a clue, the other option is to look at something like the sony DSCR1.

any thoughts or pointers would be greatly appreciated

The D80 is great, or consider the canon 400D which is also a good camera in that price bracket.

I'd stick to Nikon or Canon - upgrades/lenses are easier/more numerous.

Remember to budget for mem cards, lenses , bags etc too.

IMO as said stick to canon or Nikon, not that others dont make decent dSLR's but there a safe bet for lenses.
