Just recieved an upgrade email from Adobe for a registered copy of lightroom 1.0 (being an RSP buyer before you get a free copy).

Seems performance (my major issue with it) has been improved again since the last beta and it's now really quite good . . . RSP will still have it's place but I think this is now something that deserves a more serious play with . . .

If you bought a real copy of RSP you should have/get the email very soon . . .

What's lightroom do then?

I mean - I suppose I know what it does - but what's so good about it that we'd all want it?

I received the same – did yours have a serial number? When I clicked the link it allowed me to download a copy but where it said write this serial number down the box was blank! I have emailed them but have not had a reply yet.

Is it any good?

I've downloaded my copy and got the serial number displayed correctly (haven't installed it yet though). Did you quote the same email address as the one that the offer was mailed to? Can't think of any other reason not to get the serial number displayed.

I had the same problem and had the following response...

We experienced a technical issue and appreciate your patience while we
sort it out with our fulfillment system. A fix should be in place
within the next 24-48 business hours.
We have discovered a few workarounds that you might try:
1. Before clicking "Proceed to Download," refresh your browser window.
Multiple refreshes have proved successful.
2. Try using another web browser. Internet Explorer and Mozilla browsers
have worked for a number of customers.
If you receive a message indicating that your URL has already been used,
your account will be reset within the next 24 # 48 business hours and
you can try again then.

I don't know if you'd want it, depends on your workflow . . . but it's Adobe's new RAW converter based, I guess, on a lot of the technology from RSE.

I think a lot of people miss out on a lot by just importing RAW's into Photoshop and using its inbuilt RAW converter, which, unless I'm missing something, is woefully inadequate.

Things like RSE/lightroom and probably other more modern converters almost do away with the need for photoshop for most conversions . . . photoshop probably becomes downgraded to what it should be - for manipulation of images, not the generation of them in the first place . .

Got mine too. I only had time for a quick try but it looks interesting..

As for the invisible activation code, that happened to me too. I just clicked the link in the e-mail again and up she popped

Is someone going to post the link then, if you're all getting it without a number?

Nothing bad about posting a link?

Links worked fine for me, and it's a one time link . . . the actual download is the same as the free trial version apparently, freely available from Adobe . . .

Nah - still clunky and slow compared to RSE . . . but life and technology moves on and it's interesting to see . . . for us luddites stuck in the digital era ;-)

Rawshooter was never for da bigmac. I really wanted the closest thing to it and lo it landed in my inbox for free and there was much rejoicing. After trying to use apple's risible Aperture (they missed the cr off the front) this is ing great, particularly if you think capture no-one is ludicrously overpriced.

Aye . . . I'd like to try an apple at some point but they are soo costly . . . actually I'm not a windows person, I detest the gates world, I'm a linux/unix person, perhaps apple is the way forwards . . . unless somebody releases a good raw converter for linux, in which case everything will be perfect . . .

And soon we'll get him to Appreciate Aperture (if only they'd make it faster!)
