SLR Camera Lenses - Fisheye in particular

Hi,

I'm after a Fisheye lens for my EOS cameras as I like the effect you can get from them. I've narrowed it down to the following:

SIGMA 15MM F2.8 EX DG CANON AF: www.cameras2u.com/products/details

On paper they're exactly the same, but the Canon is £100 more or thereabouts. Is the £100 more justified? I've heard good trhings about Sigma lenses, I'm just wondering if there are any pearls of wisdom on here, or if anyone else knows of another lens that's equally as good, or maybe someone has one they don't want and would sell me?

You don't say what model your EOS is? If it's a digital then you will probably find the 15mm isn't much use because of the 1.5x crop factor.

I've got an EOS 300D and an EOS 400D

If you've got one of the Canon digital bodies with the smaller sensor (and hance crop factor) then neither of those fisheyes will give you much fisheye effect at all as the cropping removes the most distorted bits of the frame. I've tried the Canon one on a 20D and it just looked like a wide angle.

If you want fisheye on these bodies then the Sigma or Peleng 8mm fisheyes are the ones to go for.

Obviously, if your are using a full frame body then the ones you mention will be great.

Agreed - I have the Sigma 8mm. Great lens.

The peleng is manual focus, and some say a little bit soft. You get them from ebay from russia usually for around £140.
