Not tried it, but I assume AF sensor (depending on what body) could really start to struggle below f5.6 - so I'd see if you can't try one out before buying.

(By all accounts Nikon's version of 18-200 isn't bad, but some reviews can't tell the difference:

I haven't tried it, but had the little brother - the 18-125. Have to say it was a pile of tripe, and ruined a lot of my photos. Just wasn't sharp, suffered chronic CA and was really noisy. Unless sigma has improved the motors and optics I wouldn't go near one of their mega zooms ever again. Personally I would touch any Sigma that wasn't EX again. Too many once -in a life time shots have been ruined for me by Chromatic Abberation or soft optics.

I assume like other sigmas it'll try fool cameras into thnking it only goes to f5.6?

I doubt this will be much different to the tamron equivelant.

I'm with Duncan on this one, if its Sigma and it hasn't got EX on it walk away. Tend to be poor quality at the top end of the zoom. Had a 28-200 as a cheapy and thats what it was!
