Just wondering if its easy to work out when a photo was taken? I have a photo someone else took and I need to find out what time (as in exact time, I know the date and that it was taken on a phone) it was taken, although its been changed slightly since it was taken (part of a number plate blanked out), would this affect it?

Thanks

Those details are in EXIF, but I'm not sure if the photos taken with a phone would have it. (Sorry but I've never tried to check it). But EXIF isn't always reliable as the time set on the camera (or phone) may not be accurate. EXIF should be intact from the original file but once it's edited and saved, you may have lost it (depending on how it's saved).

Just checked this now and sure enough the exif data will show the date, time, phone make etc on it the same way a camera would

Good news. Let's hope the file hasn't been messed around too much and has still got the EXIF as some software and certain method of editing/saving does strip off the data.

If you have the photo on your pc (and I'm assuming windows), right click the file and select properties. Select the summery tab and click the "advanced" button.
