Hi

I am thinking of selling my Nikon 80-400 VR lens. Anyone have any idea as to what I can realistically get for it. It is in superb condition and has only been used a few times.

TIA

I think its worth about £100. But, as I'm such a nice bloke, I'm going to offer you 10% extra.

How about £110?

(I'm interested too)

I paid about £550 for mine from a friendly PH'er, but the regularly go for about 100 more than that on ebay, so I guess I got a pretty good deal.

Have a look on Fleabay (then recognise that they probably went over a reasonable price in the feeding frenzy that is sniping), secondhand dealer sites like Gray's of Westminster and Mathers and the like for a retail perspective of what people are asking. Then knock off a bit for what you caould haggle a dealer down and then knock off a bit more for the hassle / to offer someone a bargain that's worthwhile. It's called "sticking a wet finger in the air"! hehe

Me and Greg wavey both stuck a finger in the air, but I think he still misses the 70-300!! Make sure you really want to part with it, because it'll cost you more to get another!

Correct Sir!!

The 70-200 VR is back at Nikon still for the 2nd fix! Cost me £25 to post it each time! Guess I should thank my lucky stars that they honoured the HK warranty though.

Think its been posted back to me today so I hope to finally get some quality shots with it and then get a 1.4x TC and be back to the 70-300 length lens I sold to you. (really wish I'd kept it now I know how good it actually is!!)

This is the lens I was really wanting, but ended up going with a new VR 70-300mm. I watched
quite a few 80-400mm's on eBay and they were rarely sold at less than £625 + p&p. I was also wary of spending this much money on eBay for an unknown lens from an unknown individual. Shame you hadn't posted this about 3 weeks ago

Looking at the completed listings on fleabay, it looks like you'll pay about £700 + p&p + (potentially) import duty on new lens from the Far East. There have been 3 used lenses that have sold from the UK in the last 2 weeks, at £700, £750 and £820(including a 1.4x tc).

The Sigma equivalent would cost about 2/3 of that, but I don't know how they compare performance wise.
