Tommorow night I will have my first experience of taking photos in a flood lit stadium.

Due to the artifical light, does anyone have any advice on what sort of settings might work best in the conditions, as i'm still very much a begginner in this photography stuff!

cheers
Will

I'm pretty inexperienced too (certainly not shot in a stadium before) so bear that in mind when reading this

With regards white balance: If you're camera can, I'd shoot in raw, and set the white balance to auto. This way if the camera doesn't work out the WB quite right, you can sort it yourself. If you're limited to jpeg, then I'd take a few test shots and see which WB setting works best out of tungsten and fluorescent - I find that auto doesn't always calculate it quite right.

HTH

Someone with more experience will no doubt offer some better advice soon

You don't say which camera, but you're gunna want fast (small number, wide open) aperture, to get the fastest shutter speed. Also highest iso you can get away with without noise. Consider "action mode" if you have one ;o)

You'll also want the autofocus to continuously track the subject, whatever that is called on your particular camera.

RAW is good, for the reasons described above, though if you have a slow camera / flash cards you may have to go for JPEG to reduce the write time.

He has a Canon 400D for anyone else giving advice.

Off to the Rugby again?

Hold the 70-300 steady...

Thanks for the advice so far.

As rednut says, it is a Canon 400D and I will be using a 70-300 lens.
Last time i used it for the rugby I put it sport mode, which gave me a nice quick shutter speed, however it seems I am not able to shoot in RAW with that setting.
My main concern was the light as last time it was during the day, and I was reasonably happy with my results, considering the lens I used then and the fact I only had the camera 2 days.

Just back from the rugby match, and I'm pretty dissapointed, not only did my team get stuffed, I was also stopped by stewards from using my camera becasue I would be in breach of copyright apparently. I was restricted to just taking shots before kick-off. I was quick to point out that they failed to catch me at the last match!
Ok, so there are professionals there who have paid to be there, but I have paid too, and theres no way I ever plan on selling any of my pics, I was not pleased, and I was watched like a hawk for the entire game!

Heres a few shots, but nothing special, as I wasn't able to take anything of the action. All taken using sport mode.
