RawShooter Essentials- free and much better than the bundled software and, IMO, easier to use than the adobe equivalent: Bridge/Camera Raw (although I understand there is a new product from adobe which is supposed to be excellent). Its a bit tricky to find now though apparently

I've tried Nikon Capture (not the NX version) which does a quality job but is dog slow and more than a little buggy on my machine.

Raw Shooter Essentials is very good. The workflow element of it is very helpful (it's worth reading their help file). Basically you can quickly categorise pics into 1,2,3 or bin and then just process what you want.

Capture One LE (you can get a free copy if you buy a Sandisk Extreme III card) - I think it has a slight image quality edge, but I'd need to do a lot more back to back comparisons to be sure and the difference is not great enough to worry about. I don't think the user interface is as good as RSE and it has a couple of minor bugs but you may like it.

I tried a trial copy of DXO Optics - the lens correction stuff is very cool. I used it to correct leaning verticals on some pics of a church. It does all the other RAW conversion stuff too, but I haven't used it enough to form a view - it's also more pricey.

For really quick and dirty image reviewing and basic processing as well as whacking up web galleries and such, Picasa from Google is well worth a look. Good for all the snaps and use something more heavyweight for more serious stuff. It's non-destructive to the RAWs.

IMO, a combination of Picasa and RSE would probably be a good starting point if you don't want to try multiple.
