hi - i would like your opinion on the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM Lens
please. i've been offered one in mint condition for £100.

now i know it's not going to be anywhere near the L series and that, with lenses, you get what you pay for, but i can't afford 400-1200 for a lens now - so this may fill the gap for a while.

the only lens i have at present is the kit lens 18-55mm and i'd like a bit more zoom.

thanks for any thoughts

At £100 I just cannot see that you could go wrong?! Use it, ge used to it, enjoy the extra zoom it brings you, you'll (over time) see it's idiosyncrsis (ok how do you spell that?)...perhaps it won't be great in low light, but aside from that...go for it I'd say!

What Tony said !!!

Good lens at a decent price.....

Will be fine as a stop gap while you're saving for a better lens.

I graduated from the 75-300 IS lens up to the 100-400L IS and there is a big difference in quality. Keep saving, its worth it !

Tony

I've got one of these. Not made the step up to l glass yet as I can't afford it at the moment. I bought my lens about 5 or 6 years ago now for use with my eos 300 35mm and it still works fine now that it's on my 30d. As said above, not the best lens at full stretch in low light but I've always been happy with mine. Good price too. They still fetch more than that on ebay.

I had the non usm one as my main zoon for two years. It was good, but a little slow on focus, which the USM one won't be, but I did shoot over 20K pictures through it - no problem. Excellant starter lens - I'd get it.

Up to 200mm or so it's not that bad but a bit soft from there on..

It was the first "Long" lens i ever owned and ideal for learning from.

I have one, I think its pretty decent and for the price well worth it.

All the pics in this thread were taken with it: www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=374169&f=109&h=0

Still humming and hah'ing over a replacement for it.
