Hi

Video isn't something I have a natural affinity for and any moving pictures I've captured have been somewhat lack lustre. However, some of the stuff I've seen posted on this site has been very impressive. Having seen what can be achieved I intend to arm myself with a Sony 106E but, I'm also interested in getting a Bullet Cam for the recording of various activities (mountain biking, parachuting, 1/4 miling etc). Prices seem to range between £60 and £1400 for colour devices. Can I get myself something under £100 to give good results? Any recommendations from you guys in the know? Any advice appreciated.

Yep... The hi res sony bullet is about £135 IIRC - it gives great results.

Thanks Steve; was hoping to do it for under a ton but I guess it'd be dumb to quibble over a few quid and miss out on good results.

Stunningly beautiful car in your profile by the way!

That's the one I got from RF Concepts I believe. Quick search for bullet cam will bring up lots of threads....give me a sec I'll show you my one...

Ah ha....right, click this;

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=189634&hw=++bullet++cam

and buy the one linked in that thread (the hi-res sony that everyone has bought)

and then click this;

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=194903&hw=++bullet++cam

and buy the mount linked in that thread. It's great!

Look at the hoon videos in my profile, they were all taken with the bullet cam and suction mount (though qulaity has been reduced to reduce file size)

Oh, it comes in at £180 delivered which is a fair bit more than you'd alloted I realise, but this really is the one to get and I would consider an investment (that's how you word it to your wife )

Thanks Guys

I did check out RFConcepts and Dogcamsport. I'll be phoning around in the very near. Ta for the links too.

I'll also be looking for recommended editing software to splice in some 'Bangin' Choons', credits, captions etc. Something for entry level, something intuitive; possibly as a freebie download. I guess a form of editing software will come bundled with the 106E but unsure how suitable it'll be.

Windows Movie Maker; you may even have it on your computer at the moment. It is intuitiive and easy to use. Not the most flexible, but for backing music and titles/credits it's easy peasy.

do you use it (camera) as a day to day thing or just for hooning if so how long are you getting recording wise?

thought quality was great

just considering getting one for "protection"

Make sure your camcorder has an Analogue in port, you will need it to hook the bullet cam up to.

Good point, but I think he'll be fine - the Sony 'E' camcoders all seem to have analoge in (yellow minijack).

Don't shoot me if I'm wrong!

No I use it purely on hoons. I have a cool little set up in my car now that hides all the cables underneath the footrest in my lotus (as much as possible, anyway!). I certainly don't think it's practical for every day use, but there are some devices like that you can get that were discussed somewhere - whereby if there's a big impact it retains 5 seconds previously recorded and then continues recording sort of thing?!

I use 90min tapes and get through about 10 on a 3000 miles 7-8 day trip.
