Hi all

Prompted by the book thread but I thought it worthy of it's own thread...which photography magazines do people read and would recommend?

I've had Digital Photography mag in the past but it seems geared toward someone going to make a purchase, rather than actually hints and tips on the photography element itself?

I quite like the idea of subscribing to a mag - as the seasons change the hints and tips change that sort of thing?

Thanks all
Tony

Def practical Photog mag.

I buy it about once every 3 months when I go on a train or plane and it usually keeps me busy for that long. You can read and re-read articles and pretty much everything is relavent and useful to us amature digi-bods.

Gets my vote.

Other mags seem to have far too much, buying new kit stuff, which is fine for lenses and tripods etc but not for bodys, we don't need a full mag of which cam is best as 95% of readers will be happy with theirs already.

Totally agree with that - and it was my thought about digital camera magazine. I have my body already! Tripods and accessories sure, but not bodies and certainly not point and shoot ones. Might take a look at practical photog then. Ta!

I've been buying Outdoor Photography magazine recently - if you're into landscape/wildlife photography there's been some good stuff in it recently.

Another vote here for Practical Photography....

There normally seems to be a good balance of new items, news and technique's which are more biased now towards digital but can still be put into practice with film.

They do seem to have an over abundance of Lanscape issues at times but aside from that i think its one of the best Mags.

Also worth a look but not quite as good in my mind is Photography Monthly, having said that though i havent bought it for quite some time....

I'm subscribed to;

Practical Photography - Can be useful with techniques, but after you've played with your camera for a while I find it a little uninspiring. It does give you a rough idea on how to use your camera, and compositional tips which can be useful.

Professional Photographer - I find this is far more inspirational and a better mag than Practical Photography (I mean in terms of giving me ideas on subject and not just how to shoot things).

Freelance Photography Made Easy - Don't touch this with a barge pole it's the worst crap I've read in a long time and I'll be cancelling my sub at the earliest opportunity

Car magazine. Time spent looking at the photography then trying to reverse engineer how they did it is time well spent.

I like Digital Camera which I think has a good mix of techniques, ideas, interviews with photographers and product reviews.

So, to conclude, I'll get every one huh? hehe

Thanks for the suggestions people...what I'll do is buy the few discussed here and see which I get on best with!

Steve - interesting you say that. I certainly do it with most car photography I see (try to reverse engineer it, I mean) but will take a look at that specific magazine too!

Thanks again everyone
