I have a 77mm polarising filter made by a co called Arrow (was thrown in with a lense after much negotiating in HK!!) ...... anyway I was wondering whether anybody has a view on whether I would see much of a difference by using a better quality filter (I’m assuming the free one isn’t great ... erm as it was free...) e.g. Hoya.....

Now ideally I would compare:
- mine with a mates
- compare it to one in a shop

HOWEVER, I don’t know a mate with a filter this size and normally the filters are sealed prior to being sold...

So do you get what you pay for when it comes to filters or does it make naff all difference.

Thanks CAB

PS - the filter will be used on a Nikon 18-200mm (i'll be using a conversion ring)

any filter you use should be multicoated, I've neer heard of that company but then that does not mean its actually any good. best thing to do is test the sharpness and contrast you get from with or without the filter. if you don't want to use it then get a normal hoya HMC CP
