Anyone ever sold any shots?
Discussion
Has anyone here (excluding pro's of course) ever sold any shots?
I'm thinking of potentially asking a few distant freinds etc if I can do some home based reportage style portraiture and then selling prints (with a small markup of course
)
Anyone ever done anything like this on any sort of scale?

Quite a few of us on here have galleries on www.photobox.co.uk - I think I've sold about 60 prints in a year or so.
I have a very neglected photobox gallery & my newer gallery is www.apictureofsuffolk.com - hosted by the image file - stunning service & really easy to get a great looking site - I can set the prices to whatever I want, and enjoy a margin...
I have sold a few off there.

The very large majority of shots are sold on shutterstock. I was quite keen on microstock photography for a while, but havent had time to do much of anything at all in the last 6 months and your earnings/sales go down if you stop uploading. Upload to shutterstock often and you can sell all sorts of images, Ive sold terrible photos, although you only get .25c per sale.
Check out LockStockPhotography for tips on microstock photography (do's and dont's, you cant just upload anything).
I dont know whether youd enjoy microstock photography at all, but a portrait of a girl talking on a mobile phone will sell far better than just a portrait of a girl, ie its stock oriented, so possibly not what you want, but there you go.

I bought a few of your fantastic landscapes recently and mighty fine they are too. In fact i'm moving to a bigger house just so I can hang them all!

I make a few beer tokens photographing people and animals in my garage/studio - not enough to get excited about though!
I basically take the photobox price and double it and that's what I charge for prints, which just about covers the time taking the photos and post processing them.
Trouble is most idiots are happy with 6x4s and I don't make decent money until they start ordering the big prints!
