I missed the recent Tesco deal for the Canon 400D with 15-55 lens for £340 including Canon £50 cash-back. Damn, damn, damn.

However, a friend of mine is going to Texas next week and is offering to bring me one back - called the Canon Rebel XTi in the USA I believe. The price is around $730, so about £365.

Does anyone know how Canon would respond to a warranty claim in the UK on a camera bought in the US?

Any idea what I should ask for my current 300 (not digital) with 55-80 lens in a private sale?

Canon warranty their lenses worldwide but their cameras are country specific so I would doubt their likelihood of honouring an claim.

You sure about that Matt? I only because of a lens I bought from ebay HK came with a Mack Warranty - no mention of a Canon one on it?

Unfortunately, the second word would be "off"

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I have a choice of buying from the USA & taking the risk of no warranty or keep a look out for another offer in the UK. The price of the 400D will probably be well below £400 within 6 months anyway.

In the meantime I will continue with my trusty EOS300.

You missed the other thread then

For those of you who missed the offer, Jessops have matched it: www.jessops.com/Products/ProductDetail.aspx?SkuId=35963

£20 coupon code: JDSLRJ00

See: www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/prod191.html

I bought one for my better half earlier today

Works out at £349.99 for body only.

I've just luckily picked up a great deal from ebay - 400D with 18-55 EFS and a 1GB Sansdisk Extreme CF card & free postage - all for £379. A bonus is that the original receipt dated 2/4/2007 from Jessops is with it so I can claim a further £50 back from Canon - result! cloud9

As to your 300D, I also have one to dispose of and with the standard 18-55 lens they seem to be fetching £200-250 on ebay.

They don't advertise it but they do honour it. That's how I understand it anyway.

Ditto (on lenses, not bodies).
