hi all,

I'm new to the DSLR world and have just purchased a D80 and a couple of lenses, when i fit the lenses i still have about 2mm of the silver camera mounting bracket showing. should the lense fit flush against the body ? so no silver is showing ? as you look at the camera what is the litle black piece/switch by the lense mount at about 7 o'clock as you look at the camera?

Cheers

Michael,

Yes, it's normal for the silver mounting flange to be visible when the lenses are mounted.

With regard to the little 'switch' thing that you refere to at the 07:00 position, this is the drive mechanism for the autofocus on lenses that don't have a built focusing motor, such as the current Silent Wave lenses.

Hope this helps

....or do you mean the black button that you can press in when the lens is mounted? If so it's the Depth of Field preview button - it closes down the lens aperture to whatever the aperture is currently set at on the camera (normally when you're looking through the lens the aperture will be held wide open). Press the button while you're looking through the viewfinder with the aperture set at different settings - you'll see what it does.
