As mentioned in a previous post, I am looking for a secondhand wide angle lens for my non digital canon eos 3 camera.
Looking on ebay etc it seems their are lots of 18-55mm lenses for sale very cheap, however they are all from digital cameras, would they work on a film camera? or are they not backwards compatable (guessing this is true as a bargain never seems possible!!).

Sorry - those will be the EF-S 'kit' lens that everyone gets with their Rebels. It's designed for a 'cropped' digital sensor, so it won't give a complete picture on 35mm film.

You've got 3 outcomes.

One it'll fit but will only coevr the central 2/3rds of the sensor with an image- major vinigareting.

Two the mirror will hit the back of the lens.

Three , it plain just wont fit.

But honestly - the 18-55 is a POS cheap kit lens thats not worth investing in - its verging on acceptable only in ideal circumstances.

The EF-S 18-55 will not even mount to an EOS 3 as it has an extra bit of plastic on the mount that stops it.

It can be modified but it really isn't worth it imo.
