Camera = great

I've only had it 24 hours and have taken over 1,000 shots! I've gotta learn somewhere!!!

I'm going to get a 50mm f1.8 prime for gigs and a 75-300mm for motorsport (esp Le Mans ). I'll go with Canon lenses I think, the kit 18-55mm seems ok for a freebie so others must be ok!

At that rate the shutter will be done in a couple of months!!

50mm f1.8 is a cracker , typicaly sharp f2.2 and up. Obviously no good for big concerts but fine if you can get close.

75-300IS is on my list too tho consider the sigma 70-200f2.8 for motorsports if you cant go longer/faster.

Most of the pics are of my car, can you blame me!!!

I run the bands 8,200 strong fan club, have been to over 100 of their gigs and have been on stage with them about 10 times performing now so press passes aren't a problem (erm, I would hope!!!). It's been suggested that I'm tour manager next tour so front stage access should be ok.

I like the Canon IS lens, I tried it in Jessops on the 400d but I'll take a good look at the Sigma too now. Thanks dude

Well you should be able to get some decent gig shots with the 50mm then.

As for IS, Yes very nice with long lenses, but with motorsports the subject is usualy moving fairly fast, which is IS's least usefull enviroment, you typicaly need to keep the shutter speed up unless your panning etc. I'm suer peeps here can advise more, and TBH fast long glass is expensive (too much for me).

I've also just got a 400D and it appears to be in a different league to my previous 300D

I took these pictures at about 11.15pm tonight, no light apart from the house lights outside and we live in the middle of nowhere and I'm amazed at the results. I focused on the rear of my car on the one shot and should have used to house, but I was getting cold and only having some fun!

I just bought two lenses from the States: Sigma 28-70mm F2.8-4 DG and a 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG Macro which will suit my abilities for the moment. Bought and delivered in 3 days (with duty paid!) and saved about £40 on the pair.
