I am considering buying a 5D to accompany my 20D but have heard rummours that a 3D might be released - which is bound to have an affect on the price of the 5D can anyone confirm this and if so when is it due?

Cheers

PS - does anyone know when the M80/M30 storage unit will be released?

As far as I was aware, there are no imminent plans for a 3D but there are plans for updating the 5d, a 5D mk2 if you like.

I would imagine that an update to the 5D would have a knock on effect on the price of current 5Ds but only until stocks of original 5Ds dry up.

Edited to add, I don't think the 5D update is particularly imminent really.

I think the 1Ds mk3 will be along first but no idea when that might be.

It will be ages yet if the wait for my 1d mark III is anything to go by.

It is a bit like the Jaguar X-Type and Mondeo. If they gave the new Mondeo the engine it needs, and the 4WD system to go with it, almost nobody would buy the more expensive Jag. So, an evolved 5D upgraded with the logical bits and bobs, would be potentially better than the 1D MkIII and even 1DS (should it ever appear). Now I have no doubt that they would cripple bits and bobs to make it slower and less of a sports camera than the 1D, but it would impinge on sales.

If the successor happens any time soon, my money (5p) would be on a launch at Photokina at the end of September.

I was wondering that, I would assume they would keep the full frame sensor and up the pixel count, if they manage to squeeze a couple more fps out of it as well then it would be a good option for sports camera.
If I wanted one now, a EOS-1D Mark II N at £1800 delivered from one stop digital would be my choice as I do sports and the current 5d would be too slow for me, I'm still waiting for the Mark III though.
My guess would be it will be it would have something like a 17 mp sensor with self cleaning, around 3fps and something similar to the 9 point af.
