EOS 400D underexposure

Anyone had under exposure problems with a 400D and 18-55 standard lens?
Virtually everything I take seems to come out under exposed. Tried all the combinations on the camera but same thing.
Heard somewhere about lens mounts from different manufacturers being used on the camera and resultant problems with software?
Any ideas out there?

Lots of people have said that their 400D underexposes - lots of people have dismissed it as user error. A few people seem to have had them fixed with some success.
