For example if you're at the track and it rains. Can you buy special waterproof covers for cameras, or is there another way to carry on taking pictures while it's raining without getting your camera wet?

These keep most weather off.

a cheap and easy way to do it is to get a clear plastic bac big enough to hold your camera eg a sandwich bag and put the camera in teh bag so that just the edge of the lens pokes out of it. tehn use an elastic band to create a seal around the end of the lens. it may be a bit cumbersome to take photos through the bag but an easy solution if you are worried.

a huge lens cover like the one pictured above is also useful!

Next time you stay in a hotel make sure you fill up on the complimentary shower caps - it's the only use I've ever found for them!

haha, I guess I'll start experimenting with my tesco bags then. I have a lens hood, I was just a bit worried about getting the lens/camera bogy wet

You can buy something expensive but I've always found supermarket carrier bags to a good job, just tear a hole just big enough for the front of the lens, put it through and then put on the lens hood - this holds the bag in position.

I believe Canon L lenses are all weatherproof.

Ah, OK... slight misunderstanding of the post. I regularly stand in the pi55ing rain with my D2X and don't even think about the camera (It's very, very waterproof, as are it's lenses... and when I say rain I mean RAIN) - it's only water on the lens that will ruin the shot that gets to me.... hence the lens hood piccie.

For less waterproof cameras, as stated above, I'm sure Tesco's finest will do the trick.

Aye, likewise, however I did have d70 problems in inclement weather . . . I still try to protect things where possible . . .
