Hi all

Thanks for your help last week on shots for the weekend (here; www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=109&t=387144&i=0)

Here's the results! I've left in a couple of the more snappy ones (this is copied over from the Hoon forum). Particularly pleased with the panning shots! I have some dirt on the (Emma tells me) sensor, which I've not taken out in photoshop; ones that I spend more time on and put on my site I will, of course. There's also a couple of the intricate ones that need straightening ever so slightly I think (to make them even), but this is literally 1 min per photo in photoshop to size and colour a bit

Comments, as always, much appreciated!

I love these photos. The close ups are great, but you get a proper sense of speed in the moving ones. Great work matey.

close ups are good although the Porsche "calliper" shot would have been better if the wheel cap was the right way up as per the Ferrari "calliper" shot

not that keen on the panning shots but I guess that would improve with practice

good luck

Tony,
Nice pictures, I really like 11 and 12 and the arty ones.
What lens/lenses are you using.
Cheers,
Gareth.

Just a note about no 25 of the glass engine cover.
I took an almost identical one last year, but used a PL filter on my lens, which gets rid of the hazy reflections. I'll see if I can dig it out when I get home later on.

Thanks!

I'm surprised actually - people have said the hairpin shots they like most, but my favourite are the panning ones (especially number 4....at high-res the 430 is crystal clear )

Anyhow, to answer; the 'arty' ones are taken with the 50mm f1.8, and all the others with the Canon 17-85 IS USM F4.5-5.6

Thanks for the comment! The hazyness comes from a shallow depth of field rather than a poor reflection. I took a similar shot with a narrower aperture and so larger DOF and I chose the one above over it, however looking back it does look like a poor reflection. Must admit in higher-res it looks slightly more obvious, but nevertheless I see your point. I may change that one...I'll have a think yes

The CPL though I kept wanting to get out and play with (got one but not played with it much)...sometimes it can make the cars look really deep and rich with colour (great!) I just never got it out. Looking back...dammit!

Thanks all for the comments - as always, they are appreciated, digested and stored upstairs ready for the next outing thumbup

Tony,
I see what you mean, number 3 is really good too.
I think 12 is suberb, it looks like that elise was really shifting (I assume he made it!) and the light in the distance works well. I'm no expert though.
Gareth.
PS. Don't go out and buy a flash I've just had a 580ex delivered

Whoops sorry I meant number 3...the red 430, very proud of that picture yes Number 4, the grey 430, is still a cracker though. I'll get rid of the sign I think just above the front of windscreen.

See what you mean about number 12...the more I look at it, the more I like it!

For everyone else reading this; I've just bought Gareth's 30D from him. To upgrade the 20D. That I bought from him. The one that I have the battery grip with. That I bought from Gareth. You know, with those extra batteries. That I bought from Gareth. PLEASE DON'T BUY ANY EXPENSIVE LENSES...I CANT AFFORD IT!! hehe.

I did a bit of a cock up with the 70-200 f2.8l I bought one then sold it after using it once then decided I wanted one after all so bought another one, that was expensive!

hehe you nutter!

Actually that 200mm f2.8 is one I'm seriously considering. the 17-85 is great but "only" 85mm is frustrating sometimes...especially as LeMans is on the way....hmmmmm.

The panning shots are great, the fence posts and sign (black thing in 4 and 5) are unfortunate.

No.12, mama mia, I live 2 miles from Zig Zag Hill in Dorset, and if wasn't for 2 glasses of cheap ozzie plonk that picture would have me hooning up it right now.

Fantastic.

Yes, the 70-200 is fantastic, I've only used the new one once but the results were really good.
I went for the non IS version (twice now) but I like so much the IS version could be on my list soon.
I've got the 100-400L IS as well thats very usefull but the push pull zoom isn't as nice imho.
I went for the 24-105L IS which as a walk around lens.
I'd quite like the 300 f2.8 but I'd have to re-mortguage my house for that and its not exactly portable.
I'll be at lemans too, I may run into you there.
Cheers.
