Thinking of getting a Canon EF70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM lens on my next trip to the states. Cost vary from $500-$550 vs £369 (ish) over here.

Has anybody had any experince of this lens? How well does it perform at max zoom? I'm particularly interested in how well the IS performs when taking tracking shots such as cars on a circuit.

Thx for review link - hadn't seen this one. Have seen a few other reviews but they seem to be the early model of the lens & didn't mention tracking moving objects.

I know there has been a lot of debate about warranties with lenses bought/source overseas.

I have been told recently that Canon do not offer a worldwide warranty any more - does anyone know if this is true?

I found when looking for lenses from onestop-digital (Hong Kong based, I think) that Sigma lenses were supplied with a worldwide warranty, but Canon were not so that does sound like it might be the case.

I allways thought, though I may be wrong, that Canon bodies have a worldwide guarentee, and lenses are "Country of origin only"

I dug around about the warranty aswell & I think thats's correct. A bit of a risk I know if I buy a lens from the colonies, but I'm over in the states every couple of months & we've offices that I could use as a delivery address if it had to go back.

No, tis other way round. See here for instance: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Canon-300mm

And here's a body notably lacking any mention of warranty:

And I know the international warranty on the lenses is valid because I've had to resort to it once in the past.
