I'm looking to surprise the hubby for our wed anni with some saucy photo's of me. So I would like some recommendations. I have some ideas of what I and he would like but don't want to give too much away as he wonders these parts. But basically very relaxed in various outfits wink I am looking for around London as I can get away for the day there easily.
Please help.

These ladies advertise in the back of Red magazine and seem to have staisfied clients, give them a call and see what you think. I believe they are approx North London.

At a minimum of £250 plus at least £60 per print it seems expensive for the results they're producing. If you don't mind a little work yourself you could find somewhere that will give you the files and let PhotoBox do the printing.

It's always seemed a little dishonest to me the way that some portrait places almost give away the photographer's time and then rip you off for prints. Sorry - not the most appropriate thread for a rant about my pet peeves...

...although, while I'm at it...

They're also advertising that they'll retouch away all your scars and wrinkles. I'd certainly go along with a bit of minimising, but I'd think about whether you want to remove all your distinguishing marks - it is a picture of you, after all.

To get someone who isn't just going to say "yes" just for an excuse to perv, you're probably going to have to pay a fair whack for a professional.

It's pretty difficult, as I discovered recently doing the same for a friend who wanted to show off her new PVC dress and other...cough...accoutrements...to send to her ex in a "you can't have this anymore" fashion. Keeping my mind on the job was a tad tricky biggrin

To be honest it's very difficult isn't it,I din't like the pricing for the web address I gave but as Graham says to get the "right" photographer you're going to pay. Personally I'd prefer more photographers to charge fairly for their time and make their print prices more reasonable as if you're good enough then the sitter should want to buy a decent number of images.

The thing I thought was good about the web adress I gave is that it is female photographers who may put the sitter more at ease doing this type of photography.

Maybe a browse of some of the other magazines such as Cosmo etc might yield other possible options.

Cheers

I didn't mean to criticise the costs, just the costs in relation to the quality of the results.

I'll agree with Chris that the ideal set-up would be somewhere equipped for make-overs etc, with in-house make up facilities and some female members of staff.

If that doesn't work out, do you have a friend who could accompany you to the shoot?

Honestly I was agreeing with you, I'm in favour of someone saying "look it's taken me ** years to get this good and that's what you pay for, my skill and expertise". rather than coming in with a low sitting fee and then high print prices a la "Venture" type of thing. Lots of us do it in our work lives in other fields and we live and die by our results (professionally speaking).

Thank you for that - althought the web link doens't work.. I do agree that i don't kwant to some one who will charge me a small fortune to take the shots and then charge me for prints afterward too, but I do still want someone who will take out a few things that I don't like. just mainly wondered if anyone had had any dealings in this at all before..

This seems to be rather a frequent request from ladies to surprise their other halves.
Have had several such requests recently to take such pix though turned one down as her requirementa were bordering on the pornographic and had visions of an irate husband banging down my door if he discovered who had taken them!!!

That makes perfect sense to me - that way if you don't like the photos it hasn't cost you anything. Of course, speaking as a photographer, I'd like to charge heavily for both my time and the prints, but that's another matter all together smile

Much more fun if hubby can come along to watch/join in!

My missus has flicked through a few similar websites recently, I'll get her to dig out a few links. No experience of them (that I know about!) though.

It's not cheap, but if you're going to do it, it's worth doing properly, with a photographer who knows what they're doing and for that kind of shoot, a makeup artist/stylist kinda person. Obviously you don't want to be plastered in makeup until you don't look like yourself, but it really helps to have a professional make the best of what you've got.

It looks like you're getting a few recommendations, just make sure you're going to enjoy working with the photographer you choose (have a proper chat with them in person before booking anything), and check out their work so that you can come away with something that shines rather than a uninspired generic studio shot.

Jane Lancashire does some interesting nude work. I'm not sure where she is based though. Here is her website -

Make-up and styling is of crucial importance to ensure the right look is achieved. I'd echo what others have said in that you need to look at a portfolio to be sure that their style is that that you are looking for. A good photographer will put you at your ease.

Have fun!

I gave her the details of dream visions, as I know the owner, and a lot of the people in the photos (and NO, I'm not one of them!) hehe
