Hi,

I'm thinking about upgrading from my Minolta Z3 compact to a digital SLR.

I can get a refurbed 10D body only for alot less than a new Canon 350D or 400D, but I was wondering if its still worth getting?

I currently have a Canon film slr as well and a 70 - 300mm zoom lens which I could use with the 10D.

The alternative is to save up for a few months for a Nikon D40X.

What do you think?

Thanks.

if its cheap enough yes but it does lag behind the 350 & 400 in terms of noise, buffer size and focus.

Is the cost differential large compared to a 20D body ?

I used to use one and loved it. I didn't have so much issue with the noise personally, but start up is slower than current models (about 1 sec!). If it's a good price, I can't see why not. It feels a lot better than 350D or 400D, or even 20D.

Yes the difference to a 20d is quite significant (for me!).

You say the focus speed is not great? Is it enough for motorsport photography as that would be my main subject.

Thanks for your replies smile

Tracking AF is a bit slower but it was fine when I used it for motorsport. But obviously it would depend on which lens you are using.

Actually it does look a bit noisy on this image at ISO400, but does it look bad?

That looks good enough for me smile It's certainly an improvement on my current camera.

I've only just bought a 1D this weekend gone, until then I had used a 10D for a couple of years, I think its a cracking camera and will always recommend it, even over some of the newer models as they are quite rugged. Out of interest how much are you paying for the 10D?

I'm weighing up whetehr to upgrade to a 10d or 1dMk1. Would be interested in your views on the differences having used both.

Hopefully as close to £160 as possible for a refurbed body only.

I actually got a 1D MkII but basically the same as the MkI, no contest in comparison to the 10D, will probably sell my 10D and get a MkI as a back up body. (not that I expect the MkII to fail)

10D for £160 bargain go for it!
