Just about to get one of these kiddies. My local Pro dealer has one at £349 inc vat which is a good price when buying from local Nikon place who look after my needs and stoopid questions. smile

Just before I go, can anyone suggest a better alternative.

I want it because,

I'm off to Le Mans and the 70-200 f2.8 VR is too big to carry round all day

Its got VR and 300mm focal and is compact

Then all I'll take is the D200, 18-70, 70-300 spare battery. Small shoulder bag. Job done. smile

I've just bought myself a Sigma 70-300 4-5.6 APO DG, and it's great for the price (£110). Wish I could have stretched to the Nikkor VR though..

Sorry to hijack, what do you think of the 70-200? I can't decide between the Sigma 70-200, Nikkor 80-200 or the 70-200VR. I think at the moment I'm in favour of the Sigma, because I'm not sure I can stomach spending £1100 on a lens just yet! Have you used a non VR equivalent, and is the extra money of the VR worth it?

I got one the other week, very nice lens, and I think well worth the money.

My first lens with VR, I'm amazed.

Roll on the airshows ....

The 70-200 is a superb lens, I love it. I have bought the 70-300 VR yesterday and that seems lovely too, much smaller and easier to carry about, plus the extra 100mm which at f5.6, is pretty much the same as the 70-200 would be at 300 with a 2 x TC on the front, but with the advantage of the "real" 70mm to fall back on.

Can't really say it'll be anyway near as good to the well trained eye, but to me I think it'll be great and at £349 instead of £1200 which the 70-200 cost me, its a vast difference!

Just not sure if I should sell the 70-200 and pocket the £5-600 change! smile

Anyone fancy if for £900? Its virtually brand new, and has been fully tuned by Nikon UK twice. rolleyes (cause i left a crappy UV filter on which made it soft) whistle whoopsie. smile
