Hello!
I'm new here, just introduced myself on the General Gassing forum, thought I'd pop a few pictures up on here. I'm a very keen photographer but not at the moment as we are in 24hr darkness. Anyway, here's a couple from the last 2 years I have been down here.

The last one is Aurora Australis, very rare to see as it's hard to get far enough South, we get a few good displays down here.
Mat.

Well you're certainly not wasted all the way over that in neck of the planet!

Welcome - and good one for piping up and introducing yourself - IMO you must have one of the most exotic/interesting occupations here - which is a tall order.

Hi Mat and welcome.

"It's a bit nippy here" (from your profile) deserves some sort of award.

Hi and welcome. Great photos. Is the last one the 'southern' lights then presumably?

Hello!
Thanks for the comments. Yes Gregorio, Aurora Australis is the Southern Lights, Aurora Borealas are the Northern. No worries Mr Mojo, I'll bring you one back!
Cheers.

24hr darkness? No problem! Get a telescope!

Seriously, You are in pretty much the ideal location for astrophotography (depending on altitude). Get a scope and give it a go!

Great pics btw.

Great pictures, kind of glad you took them and not me though.

Do you get much opportunity to enjoy nice vehicles out there then?

Ok, here's some vehicle pics. I look after SnoCats, Skidoos, Challengers, Bulldozers, Nodwell Cranes, John Deere quad tracks, a few below.

SnoCat

John Deeres and Challengers hooked up to move the garage, it's on ski's and gets mooved every year due to snow buildup.

Cat D5 dozer, we have 3 D5's and a D4

I look after over 30 skidoos, here a couple of the guys on base give me a hand to get the doos inside where they are defrosted and serviced.

This is the garage taken a couple of weeks ago at midday. I have 2 dozers and a SnoCat parked behind, they are hooked up to 110v when they need to be started, block heaters warm the oil.

Cheers.
Mat.

Welcome.

Where did you inhabit before moving south?

I opened up the thread expecting to recognise some shots as I'm South England, but could I literary be more wrong in that thought!

Great pictures and 'When You're Gone' is a good song.

Thanks for the comments! Noire, coming down here with a medium or large format would be great, I spent my first year on the Antarctic Peninsular, stunning scenery and lots of animals, at the moment I'm a lot further south on a base built on a floating ice shelf, a lot less scenery but still stunning. Cheers Rednut although don't listen to that, it's just a bit of mucking about, get quite a bit of time here to develop things you'd never normaly do! Yes Rob, we're neighbours almost! I love NZ, spent 6 months there before coming down here, would love to live there one day.
Thanks again, glad you guys like the pictures!
Mat.

Hi Mat

Nice photos.

Just keep to the speed limit on those Skidoos... I'd hate to have to come down there and deliver a Court summons to you (actually, I'd love a trip down there).
