From a compact they look quite good. I'm off to Twycross on wednesday and am looking forward to testing my new camera out, compared to when I last went and took the sony. (didn't get any decent pics then)
It's my old Fuji and gives pretty good results. It is a bit slow and the screen is hopeless in low light and it's only 3.1 megapixels which was good but is now not many but it never fails to impress me.

Thanks Kentish
Rob, the moonshot was taken on a tripod, using full optical zoom (10x) and digital zoom (4x), hence 40x combined. I also exposure compensated down 1 stop, and used a 2 sec shutter delay to reduce vibrations.
The detail is lacking I suspect primarily due to the use of digital zoom, but of course the lens and sensor are rather small in any case on these shirt pocket sized cameras.

Behind glass and indoors

10x zoom with macro, was stood about 20ft away

All these are behind glass too, using full zoom and macro capabilities

About 20ft away from this too
