Hello all

I have recently purchased a bullet cam from dogcamsport, but unfortunately my current video camera does not have an av-in port. Therefore I am looking for advice as to which is the best camera to use with a bullet cam. I currently have a Panasonic NV-GS1 which is a very good camera, with good picture quality and has stood up to the abuse of being used as an in-car camera well. I’d be looking, I think, for a camera that has a better picture quality (+800k mega pixels), dv tape and obviously an av-in port. Cost around £500?

So what can you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

BossCerbera recommended a Sony DCR-HC96E to me, and I've had some good results with it. My understanding is that it has just gone out of production, but this company http://www.actioncameras.co.uk/ had several in stock when I bought mine earlier this year, and they can also supply bullet cams and associated accessories if required.

You'll find alot of DV cameras don't have the AV ports any more which is not good for us bullet cam users! I have 2 DV cameras but all 2 years old now but ebay might be worth a look as most bullet cams have a lower res than the cam its plugged into?

Still keep your one now but buy a £50-100 to use with the bullet cam?

I use a Canon MV960 which does the job and was a current model when I got it at the end of last year.

Slightly fiddly to start and stop recording as you have to go through a screen menu on the flip out screen, rather than a direct button. I gather with the Sony camcorders you can get a remote wired start/stop button which makes life easier.

That's correct Mark. There are a couple of types available. One allows you to put the camera in to standby mode, and then switch recording on/off. Another type just switches the camera on and starts recording straight away. Allows you to tuck the recording camera out of the way within the car, and makes it a lot easier if you are on your own in the car - much less distraction.
