Basically I bought a D50 a couple of years ago, and the in built flash has stopped working. I have an SB600, which whilst doing the job, makes it a pain to carry, as well as the camera and lenses.
Nikon are offering £60 cashback on their D40's, which gets me a Brand new camera, with an 18-55 lens for around £270(Bargain considering my D50 was double that!).
Because of the flash problem, my thoughts are to sell the D50 body and lens seperately, and get a D40 kit. I think the lens would be worth around £80, and possibly another £100 for the body.(Obviously I would be Up front about the issues with the body). The question is are they similiar quality cameras? The D50 seems better built than the D40. I would aldo get a new 1 yr warranty, whereas a repair has no real comeback.
What would you do?

Avoiding the 'wait for the D3' gag, I'd consider a second hand D70s... better than both the D50 and the D40

...but if you go for the D40 and are considering buying lenses, buy the D40x (it has electrinics inside that you'll appreciate down the line).

I have a D50 and a D2X and the D50 is ok... but it's metering is average at best (IMHO)
