Nikon D80 or D40x or something else.

I am in a dilema, I am coming back to SLR's after something like a 10year break. Ex Minolta Dynax user.
Always liked Nikon stuff.
Like the layout and write ups of the D80 but it is a bit tight on budget.
Like the function of the D40x but want that little bit more control / functionality.
Please convice me either way.

Also an ex Minolta Dynax user and much prefer the Nikon. I would go with whatever feels natural when you first pick up the camera. Cannon and Nikon are the very best of the bunch, just do things in a different way. Then use the camera. The body will be dated in a few years anyway. I have been told many times it on balance is more important what glass you use.
Nikon for cameras and binoculars, Canon for printers.

I was pondering a similar thing (D80/D40/400D etc) and also ran across the Pentax K10D - has anyone on here used one?
Going by the spec and some of the awards its won etc they seem to be aiming for the D80, but for a significantly cheaper price and with weather/dust proofing equal to or better than the D200, and in-body shake reduction which could be a handy feature. I probably won't be spending the $$$ until next year by which time no doubt there'll be some more options, but any thoughts on the K10D?

What digital camera reviewed the Canon 30D, Nikon D80 and the Pentax K10D this month.
The Nikon gets the nod, but only just. The comment about the K10D was that in needed more work from the user to get great results. Where as the D80 just did it with out fuss.
I preffer this idea, 'cause then I can concentrate on the composition. But i'll spend a good couple of hours in camera shops before I make my final choice.
