First one I like but I'm not a fan of the orange colour cast street lights give it - the second one would have been better had you moved to the left and got less empty street and more building in the background.

Neither looks "ruined" by photoshop, far from it.

i am slightly suspiscious because:
i) you say these are your first attempt at photography ?
ii) your first attempt at photography involves a 3 & 5 second exposure which i presume are tripod mounted ?
iii) you don't even own a camera ?
iv) generally speaking, one develops photoshop skills after generating a certain skill level/experience with photography ?
v) composition, exposure and cropping are really, quite good.

if i have the wrong end of the stick ... well done ! ... i could'nt produce those results after forty six years !

Perhaps - but you're generalising a bit.

I'm a dab hand at photoshop having spent years using it for Web design etc. Lots of work on photos, alpha channels, cropping, colour balancing enhancing replacing masking all that kind of malarkey.

On the other hand as most people who have seen my holiday snaps will attest to I am a pretty dismal photographer! I'm lucking if the heads of the group I'm takign pictures off are in the picture. If it's straight and level and doesn't ahve my thumb over the lens then I'll print it out and hang it on the wall hehe Maybe with practice I'll get better, but I'm not holding my breath!

Have to say I'm amazed (and jealous!) if they are the first photos they took with a digital camera - especially with a long exposure.

Shoudln't be jealous though - love taking photos, but I think in 10 years of enthusiastic photography there are probably only 2 photos I've ever been proud of!

Truthful! I have an understanding of photography but this is my first go I swear. I mean I have taken holiday snaps with apoint and shoot but thats it!

This camera made it so eas I just played around with the exposure time until it looked good and these are the results.
