Hi people,

i've been thinking about making a rig for ages but since i don't have a clue what one looks like (thanks to photoshop) i'm a bit stuck or idea's.

was thinking of using the twin suction cups used for removing panes of glass and a bit of scaffold pole but can't help thinking the would be too flexable/sketchy as there is a fair bit of wight in a 5D and i've heard you're better attaching the rig to the underside of the car (where?)also what lenses are people using with them?

please help (pics would be fantastic!)

thanks in advance,

rick.

From memory, there used to an american site for car photography that had a rig section that Matt used to post on (I dont think they saw eye to eye with him on many occassions wink).

I cant remember the name. Anyone know the address?

Surprisingly stable. Check out Matt's site for the results. www.MattWatkinson.com (or Car Magazine or Top Gear Magazine)

take it back!....just had a look at thier site and i think the one in your shot looks unstable because of the way it's attached. the way they do it n the side of vehicles looks really stable.

might have to invest!...cheers for that.

mats stuff rocks BTW esp shot of atston.

many people use the automotive rig set up which is a magnet under the car and its less stable than matt's as its only only pole.

whats that lens matts got there?

I've nothing wider than 24mm Ts-e

was thinking of buying a 20mm prime for lightness....
going to be wide enough on a full rame sensor?

used to have a sigma 12-24 which i could borrow back but it was pretty useless TBH was soft at 100% on my old 10D, dread to think what it's like on my 5D.

24-75 f2.8 L

don't want to go wide as you'll distort the look of the car

Well the shot of the rear of the Aston was 1/80th @ f22 @17mm, so that narrows it down biggrin
