I am looking on fleabay at the moment at Nikon D2X and D2Xs (was going to go for the D200 but would have kept the grip on all the time anyway, so might as well have it built in). To be used for hardcore travel and portrait stuff.

Apart from a bigger LCD and some more electronics is there any real difference between the two ?

The D300 is too far out of my price bracket.weeping

Important bits are identical and a reflash of the d2x firmware puts the software and image processing on the same level too . . .

D2Xs is not worth any more than a D2X IMHO . . .

Where are you gettting a D2x from where it's that much cheaper than a d300?

I'd be getting a brand new D300 over a second hand D2x every time, seems to me the price is very similar.

New D300 = £1,100

Second hand D2x = £800 ?

New D200 = £710 tax free at Dixons

New D200 = $1400 ish in US

New D300 = $1700 ish in US

mmm, you might have a point. I don't need the camera before Christmass so might wait till prices come down a bit more.

yes

You don't get the pretty cropped mode greyed-out in the viewfinder tool. that's the only difference I could find. An EN-EL4a is a step up from the EN-EL4 supplied with the "non-s", too.

Second hand d2x for £800? Go for it, cheapest I've seen one go for is more like £1100, the norm appears to be around £1400.

The d2x is being offered by a friend of a friend for what could be a very good price. He is playing hard to get at the moment so just hope he hasn't had a change of mind.
