Unable to remove filter...now broken!
Discussion
What can I apply to the face of my lens to make it easier to remove filters when i dont need them?
Tried to remove a circular polarising filter off my 70-200 VR Nikon lens earlier and it was completely stuck...until the filter glass fell out along with the circlip leaving the threaded base still stuck on the lens!!(have now got it off)
The end of the lens is rubber, would some sort of grease work?

unfortunately I dropped my 5D with 24-105 and it landed right on the edge of the filter, which saved the lens but completely smashed the UV filter. I got the broken glass out but i cant shift the filter screw as it is now slightly oval. I'm hoping the actual lens thread is still round!
For the time being I have managed to screw another UV filter on top of the damaged filter screw. I'n not sure if I'll try to remove it later on or not!

If the glass from the broken filter has all come out then you can very carefully get a pair of needle nosed pliers and bend the broken filter ring further and it should just drop out of the threads. It should bend quite easily as it is very thin metal. Note you need to do this very carefully to avoid damaging the threads on the lens . I've done it before and it's worked fine and I'm pretty ham fisted with these thingsFor the time being I have managed to screw another UV filter on top of the damaged filter screw.
