Tweaking a pic

... make it better....
Depends what you have in mind for "make it better". It's a good image - often a change to b&w puts a different complexion on something ordinary, so that's a good ploy you've gone for there. I happen to like (part of) my images sharp, which you can't do by tweaking a 'phone image, but plenty like something a bit softer. What you've achieved here I like, also, and against my usual preference - because it's almost a "dream-like" finish. Overall, whatever you were trying to say, there's an image that conveys "happiness", "fun", and loads of other thoughts, is relatively simple (uncluttered) and no doubt means something to the people involved as well.
At the end of the day, the wonderful thing about photography is that all the rules can be broken, the image can be taken on a pinhole camera or the latest state of the art and it still doesn't matter two hoots what anyone else thinks, a good image to you is a good image.
Is 'post-processing' accepted as a normal integral part of digital photography or are most shots left unmolested? In preparation for my SLR to arrive I think I'm begining to get a very basic understanding of some of the optics, but am I going to have to master photoshop as well?
On the subject of altered pics - has anyone here seen the Maserati 250F article in this months evo? A couple of the shots look like they've played around with the colour balance to give them a 1950s appearance. I had to do a bit of a double-take on one to check it was the Evo guy (Richard Meaden?) and not Fangio!

I very much doubt there is a single picture in any car mag in the UK that has not been tweaked. If you want to get the best results, you'll need either Photoshop (or one of the many clones... Paint Shop Pro is good).
