I've recently being playing about with night photography (not much bloody choice this time of year) and managed to come up, slightly by accident, with this image:

It's a ruined barn in the field behind my house. 2 min exposure F8 iso 100 at 18mm on a Sony A100. The lighting was from the road behind the camera. Nice orange streetlamps.

Whilst I'm posting, has anyone got any advice on focusing in the dark? I've taken to putting a torch at the place I want to focus on and using that. Are there any easier ways?

Thanks for any comments.

nice shot?...is the noise bad?

for focus:

look at the scale on our lens?
shine a torch on the focus point?

Noise isn't too bad (low ISO) but I'm not convinced the shot is focused properly (could be my eyes...).

You've invented a new type of shot!
Looks like it should be scene in a video game smile

I think that's superb, but it's incredibly surreal. Took me a second to work out that was a dry stone wall and a ruined barn, not a more exotic scene somewhere.

Thanks, it wasn't an intentional shot, I was surprised how the sodium street lights illuminated the long exposure.
