Canon camera naming scheme. Grrrrrrrrr.

It's getting almost as bad as with TVs...
Trying to choose a Christmas gift, request is for a very small digital camera (preferably Canon). So off I go to DP Review site and start checking out the specs. Then I check the camera sales sites, can't find any matching names. Then I go back to DP Review and check the "also known as" box in the spec sheets (which is not always complete, but the information can often be found in the user opinions section). Then I go back to the online stores to find something that shouldn't actually exist
Trying to compare specs and prices is a nightmare! So I'm going to buy an SD1000/Digital Ixus 70. Or maybe a Powershot SD70/Digital Ixus 75. Or maybe an Sd950 IS/Ixus 960i with 12mp, also known here as Ixus 950is with 8mp. Unless that's the older SD900/Digital Ixus 900ti, but hang on - that one has 10mp...
Real solution will probably be head off to the shop, buy the 1st one I see then go for a drink
