Is this a good deal.... Canon 5D
Discussion
Why do you think you need full frame? Only the 5d is the real full frame option out there and not all pro's use it so why do you think you need to go full frame? Not suggesting you shouldnt if you can afford the body but curious as to what makes you feel you must go full frame over a cropped sensor
well not so much because its full frame although it will be more useful according to everyone I have spoke too., but because with me getting more into the photography side, I found the other week when at another studio doing a group shoot, and we had to use a lead for the lighting and unfortunately the 350D does not support the lead. Plus also I would like a more pro camera.
Thing is tho, how long do you wait? no-one can put a release date on a replacement for the 5D? so its either bite the bullet and pay the price now or hang in the hope of a replacement being release very soon.

true, the 5d is a fantastic body and for the price new a bargain. I antagonised over whether to wait for the replacement, that was back in March I think I bought mine for 1600. I know also the difference between the sensor on the 5 and 350, no doubt the image quality from the 5d is really that much better - worthy of the premium. I just expect that canon to be around the corner but saying that a grand for a new body is madness.
f**k it go for it and you wont regret it.

i'm sure you probably know this already, but you won't be able to use your 350d lenses on the 5d...just in case you weren't aware of this.5D prices seem to be pretty much of a muchness wherever you go. Even refurbished ones from the Canon Ebay site seem to be going for the same amount - Quite why someone would go for a refurb over a new one at the same price, I dunno! The major side effect of a new 5D successor will be that 5Ds drop in price overnight, making them a better proposition for us mere mortals. However, if your camera is going to be earning it's keep then it is a straightforward calculation.

I wouldnt be so sure of a massive price drop over night! Look at the 350d when the 400d came out - prices hardly were effected (used)Quinny said:

I'm only going to consider an upgrade if it comes with a sensor cleaner built in!
I don't really know anything about the 5D, it's always been out of my league so I've never considered it.But I'm intrigued by the sensor cleaning, as I've never had a camera with it, I'm not sure I fully understand the benefits.
I understand the principle of the sensor vibrating to remove dust, but where does the dust go??
It's still in the camera, and sooner or later it'll end up back on the sensor, so in reality it hasn't been removed at all.
Am I thinking along the right lines, or is the sensor cleaning, really that good??
