Visited the Winter Wonderland on Saturday, and this was my first attempt at candid shots. I'm still a bit nervous shooting people (I kinda feel like a stalker or something), but I'm sure I'll get over this..

There's larger versions on my flickr account, feel free to take a look.

Comments very welcome.

Neil.

I think they're all great pics. They really show character.
Not much else to say, other than i also feel a little uncomfortable photographing people. Not sure why.

Nice work

Whats the position on candid shots?

Do you need their permission ?
Implications of publishing an image of person, who does not know etc etc?

Thanks.

As for as I'm aware, as long as you are in a public area no one can stop you taking a photo. Would you mind someone taking a photo of you in the street? I certainly wouldn't.

Great shots mate. I don't really like taking photos of people either, the only time I've ever really done it was when I was in paris, I didn't have a very good camera so the quality of the photos wasn't very good but I'm pleased with the composition. They were taking photos of Notre Dame.

I posted on this subject a week or so ago, in my recent photo mag, the met stated that there is no law being broken, (or words to that effect), if you are taking a photograph in a public place, but they may get a little annoyed if you caught taking pics of security at an embassy.

Mind, I think they may take a dim view if you sit around kiddys playgrounds taking pics of them all day.

I'l have a search, and if I find what I posted previously (copied exactly from mag), I'l post on here

Just found it, the article said:-

In my latest copy of the "Photographer", there was an article on a phogographer being stopped by PCSO's and quizzed why he was carrying a camera, the article then had an article headed:-

WHAT THE MET TOLD US

Speaking in terms, "You cant stop somebody taking photographs in a public place", "If they are just in the street taking photographs, as long as what they re taking a photographs of isnt for instance, the alarm system of the Israeli Embassy, its not a problem. You are perfectly at liberty to take photographs in a public place as long as you are not obstructing a highway or a footway"

Hope that halps.
