Christmas present for Mrs Inc.

We've got a decent bulky one and a 35mm SLR but she wants something to take around with her.

Any good suggestions of where to look/buy, any makes to avoid/are particularly good. Simplicity and good optics probably the key

Cheers

Ben

Come on guys help me out hehe

She's out of the office for an hour or so, time to go shopping !!

Current faves are Pentax Optio M40 or Cannon Ixux

Am I likng them just because they're made by traditional camera makers ? Should I broaden my horizons ?

How do?

I asked the same question a few months back and the Canon Ixus came highly recommended. So I bought a Ricoh Caplioredfacehehe (Only cos it does wide angle to big zoom in a very compact body.)

Canon for me - I've had 2 Canon's (Ixus and PowerShot) and a Pentax Optio. The Optio has a fault were the telephoto lens phallic bit gets stuck and then says the battery is depleted.

Far happier with Canon generally too...

Well thanks,

Cannon it is then, local Jessops have it at a very reasonable price too. I was tempted by something more expensive but We've already got kit to do that if we want

We changed from an Ixus to the Panasonic Lumix. Pros of the new Lumix are image stabilisation and a massive zoom range in quite a compact little body. Downside is the images are quite noisy at higher ISO / night time type shots. Overall well worth a look if you have not executed on the Ixus already

Did the same kind of research and came to the same conclusion (mainly because the previous Ixus broke down so fancied a change)
