Very nice, Motorsports what im into taking pictures of and i have to say i hope i can get results like these in the future. Mostly do club rallies but a proper circuit event would be sweet. What kind of kit are you using to take those??
P.s my site www.dankemp.co.uk, would apreciate any feed back from you.

I'd take time to consider the background you're going to get in your pictures, and pick your spot accordingly, so that when you press the shutter button, you can concentrate on the car, knowing that the background is going to look good too. Also, your photos could do with a little editing, in terms of crops and levels...some of them look a little dark and need lifting. Never tried rallying, but I guess its a pretty tough sport to cover.

Brilliant! The first one is great with the glowing brake discs. Been tring to get one like that the last 3 years at Le Mans, with a point and shoot. Realising they are only any good if your subject is stationary,i have upgraded to a Canon 400D. Currently have a Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO DG zoom lens. Will this be any good or do i need a bigger lens. What lenses did you use? Any tips greatfully received.

Your lenses are long enough. The glowing brakes shot was using a 70-200mm. I use that and a 300mm 2.8Good luck, and show your results.

Hi Steve,It's not a genre I'm particularly drawn to, but I really like your photos

I do however think some of them are screaming out to be converted to a really gritty B&W. I made a very quick attempt, but I really mean for them to be a lot grittier than this:

For me race cars aren't about clean lines and perfect paintwork, they're about brake dust, battle scars etc and I'd be wanting to convey this with the photos.
Apologies if you feel I've butchered your photo

No apology necessary. Always happy to see other interpretations of a picture. I've done a few of mine in black and white and I think they work well if the car is plainly liveried.Apologies if you feel I've butchered your photo

Cheers for the advice, non of my phtos are edited apart from croping, and picking a spot is difficult as most events i cover as a marshal and just take photos from wat ever post im assigned to.
Naughty, naughty. Marshals should be marshaling, not taking photos! If you want to take pictures from places other than the ones 'joe public' are allowed in then you must sign on as media, not as a marshal.Quinny said:
I'd say its one of the perks of being a marshall
At the end of the day they give up their time for free, risk being injured or worse.
So if they can get a few shots in that Joe Public can't, good luck to em I say
But they are there to oversee what is going on, to watch for dangerous situations and warn the spectators/competitors. If you have a camera stuck to the front of your face, you are not doing the job you have volunteered to do as you cannot be aware of what is going on around you.

Taking photos whilst on duty as a marshal is not a perk of the job. If you sign on as a marshal and take your camera onto the stages with you, you are abusing the position you have been trusted with. Yes, people give up their time for free but, you marshal for the love of the sport not to get photos that joe public can't get! Media are there for that. The marshals are there to watch their backs!
Im not trying to justify me taking pictures while marshalling but as i say i do it whilst under safe conditions. Such as the section of the stage im at has proved to cause no propblem for drivers and speccies over at least 2 previous stages, if there are no speccies to watch for and theres more than 3 of us. I would never put my camera infront of someone else safety and i take pictures under the approval of the 4 other marshals i marshal with. I dont really get out to rallies unless im marshalling with the other guys i go with. Also im pretty unlucky, since the best chance of a good action shot are during an accident i never get one lol.
Not me...im very causious about it knowing what can go on when ur back is turned etc. I know its against the rules but i wouldnt do it unless it was safe. as i say i also take off my marshals tabard and let my buddies do the work when i transform into a photographer
theres always enough of us to do so. What i have noticed is the vast majority of speccies know what there doing and sometimes help us rebuild the stage between stages if were pushed for time/man power.
