I'm sure this topic must have been covered before, but search didn't turn anything up, so I'll ask anyway!

I have a couple of (big!) boxes of photographic prints, including a bunch of APS films which have been processed and printed. I'd really like to convert some of these to digital and add them into my online photo library.

Obviously I could sit and scan them in a print at a time, but there are thousands of the buggers, so that isn't particularly practical.

Has anyone used (or know of) a decent high-street or mail service for turning prints/print film into jpegs?

Any advice or suggestions would be gratefully received!

cheers

I think the best you'll get is take them somewhere that will do print from prints as they should do prints to cd too, i have a feeling it would be rather expensive tho

I've been considering this too and came up with these:-

http://www.digitiseyourphotos.co.uk/pricing.php

http://www.evermedia.co.uk/Photo-Slide-to-DVD-VCD-...

http://www.treasured-memories.org.uk/33.html

Considering the free image enhancement services included, the last one looks good.

Thanks for those links Roy.

Blood hell - it's going to be expensive though! Might just be cheaper to go back to all the places I've been in the last 20 years and take new photos!

I'd re-photograph them. Set flat in good even light, click, JPG.

Now that's not a bad idea!

Might have to have an experiment to see what the quality comes out like. Some kind of tabletop mount for the camera and a glass sheet to flatten the pictures under would be useful.

Hmmmmmm....

I have doen the re-photgraph thing and it works very well; time consuming, but perhaps it concentrates one's mind as to which are the really important photographs.

'Tis also what I've done and once set up, you get through them remarkably quickly. I used two 'daylight' lamps - very bright white light, manual focus, and a tripod with an extendable arm (benbo)
