I managed to aquire a copy of Photoshop CS2 over the weekend and I've been having a little play.

....no samples to embarass myself with I'm afraid!

The lighting results weren't exactly spectacular and worse still there was a sort of slight motion-blur on the finished image.

I presume this is due to the camera moving in between takes? It was on a tripod, but I was manually adjusting the shutter speed (all else left the same) and firing the camera so I guess I must have knocked it a little. Do I just need a better tripod and a remote trigger or is there likely to be more to it than that?

The process appears to be fairly idiot proof. You select 3+ images, it runs a procedure and you end up with the HDR image. I presume there are some settings to fiddle with somewhere.

Anyway, can anyone offer me some tips?

you don't necessarily need 3 shots. In CS2 open your photo then go to Image, Adjustments, Exposure and adjust the Exposure to -2 then save the shot as shot1 (for expample). Then adjust the Exposure again to +2 and save as shot2 and again change the Exposure to +2 and save as shot3.

Never done hdr in CS2, I normally use Photomatix, but the above helps if you only have one shot to use wink

^^ Not so good in Jpeg but If you take one RAW file then convert it into 3 Tiff Images, works alot better, as theres more detail to adjust in a tiff than a RAW.

Do you get the same sort of effects altering the exposure digitally from the same base image then?

Can I ask a random CS2 question whilst I'm here - why can't I save my HDR images as jpg? If I load a normal photo I can save it as just about anything (including jpg) but my HDR experiments would only save to about 4 different formats.

Also, can anyone suggest a good test image to demonstrate HDR on? I assumed something with plenty of light and dark, so (based on what was available in the house at night) I tried a photo with most of the lights of, but one intense strip light in a corner of the shot, the montior glowing on the other side and the flashlight from my mobile on the other! (Serious setup smile) What I mean is, what sort of thing (around the house and at night) could I show off the results with?

It could be that the file is 16bit you will have to convert it to 8 bit to save as a jpeg

Image>mode>8bits/channel

Ahh, cheers. The 16+ bit format probably also explains why the photoshop formate images are so bloody massive (120Mb for a photo...)
