Just bought a D300

Quite dam sexy.
I am like a kid with a new toy. Spent ages in the camera shop (Bristol Cameras) playing with all their lens, tripods and other gear. Nice chaps, who didn't hard sell anything. Ended up with a 50mm lens, small Manfrotto tripod (for travel), 2 8GB cards, filter and cloth all for an ok price. It might have been a bit cheaper online, but well worth being able to ask questions and try things out in the flesh. I also like that I could give my business to an independent shop.
Just need to find a couple of zooms and another prime or two. Looks like this is turning out to be an expensive hoby.

I wouldn't call us mafia, I'd say more connoisseurs
It's like the Russian taste in externally labelled luminous Prada vs a gentlemanly Saville Row suit with your look at me white lenses
Actually I think the brands complement each other rather well at the moment. Once you get above the 800 quid mark they avoid each other on price and features. Although arguably the D300 is a little more expensive than it ought to be. Personally, I went Nikon for the 18-200 wunder lens and the lack of direct competitor to the D300. A 1D mk3 would have been lovely were it not so expensive!
