First session with new Camera... CC please!
Discussion
Bought myself a Fuji S6500fd for Christmas. Went for a Sunday afternoon walk and took a few snapshots in the Botanical gardens in Sheffield today, What do you think? This kind of thing is not really the reason I bought the camera, but I like trying to capture the colours and textures.
All I've done is crop and auto-contrast them in Picasa. I haven't a clue what the colours will look like to you, my monitor is fubared.
Its the first camera I've had with proper manual control, still trying to get round balancing the shutter speed and aperture, and also trying to use the histrogram to get the exposure right. A lot of them I've take on program mode, then looking back to see what setting the camera has chosen and trying to replicate its results.
How do I get them sharper? Its only round the corner so if someone can give me a bit more advice I'll go back and work on them.
ETA - the rest are here

Think I should upgrade to a proper account...

I think number 7 needs a greater DOF, right? To try and capture more of the plan life in focuse, yet still retaining the kind of 'diffused' window in the background?

Sorry, missed this first time!
Not bad attempts for a first outing with a new camera. What sort of settings were you using? I know you said you were replicating the settings it was giving in program mode but, what were the actual settings the camera though you should be using? What sort of lighting was in the garden?
As the objects were static you would probably have been better in aperture priority mode and just playing around with different apertures until you find something you like. Again with the lighting, play about with the white balance settings and see what effects it has on the pictures. Same again with the ISO settings.
Once you get used to which settings give what results, you'll soon get the hang of it
Practice is the key.
