I wonder if anyone can help?

I digitised 9hrs of audio only from a shoot from DVCAM into Premiere 6.5 and have chopped it down to about 10mins on the timeline. This was some interviews and now I want to go back and get the video to go with it. Easy, I thought, just batch redigitise from the timeline and Bob's you uncle. Except that it doesn't seem that easy after all. If I redigitise the source material it just replaces the clip in the bin and removes the edited clips in the timeline which is not good!! There must be a way of doing this, all the footage is timecoded and reeled so how do you do it?

I wish I had done this on my usual system, would have been a piece of tiddle and I can do it with my eyes closed - doh!

If the audio has video with it, why not just capture the parts that you want, allowing a few seconds either side of each clip for any effects, then edit from there? You'll save shitloads of HD space as well.

It was disc space that made me do it this way in the first place as it was 9 hrs - we did the interviews for a museum and they wanted oral historys initially with some video as well. I said we'll do the lot on video, I'll give you WAVs of the audio and you can tell me which bits you want as video for a latter prog - thinking I'll just cut the audio up on the timeline as a sort of offline and then simply batch redigitise with the video as well this time, all nice and simple. Except it isn't as I think I am being daft somewhere. Any ideas?
